All the doctor's can figure is that he got some sort of viral infection. But they made his situation worse, and they admitted it. He was dehydrated when he went to the hospital, so as would be expected, they gave him fluids through IV. Unfortunately, they did it for too many days, and he ended up getting his lungs all junky. So add in oxygen, nebulizer, prednasone, and some antibiotics, and we think he is finally getting better.
They were able to do his SRS radiation yesterday afternoon, so they could observe him overnight. He did extremely well. It was painful during the procedure, he said it was one of the worst things he's ever done as far as pain. That's saying a lot, since he lost a finger when I was a kid, and just about 5 years ago, had to go through 2 major back surgeries. He seems extremely confused, but we won't know for awhile whether that is temporary or permanent.
He's been up and down in the confusion department a lot lately. One of the seizure meds caused some of it, and they have taken him off that as of yesterday. But also, we found out, that if his sodium levels get too low, that will add to his confusion. He is showing signs of dementia setting in since his surgery.
It's hard to watch him like that, but at least we got him home now. Time will only tell how well he improves. Mom knows she needs to step back, and stop enabling him. She dotes on him way too much, so he isn't doing what he should for himself. He needs to get out of his dang recliner and walk, do things for himself. Period. Otherwise he will just go down hill again.
I am exhausted, but wanted to update you all, and thank you for your prayers. They are so appreciated, you have no idea (or maybe you do). I will check in tomorrow maybe.
