We knew from looking at the map online, that Falls Lake was a pretty big place. That was an understatement! Yesterday the boys and I headed up there to check it out. WOW!
I am very grateful that it was super easy to find. The directions on the website were fabulous, and there were plenty of signs to guide us in the right direction. We stopped first at the visitor center, to get some information and maps. The young lady in there was great, filling us in on the best place to start.
We actually checked out a small path right behind the visitor's center, that leads to a small dock. There is no fishing or swimming on this side. It was so cool to walk around the edge of the lake investigating and checking out new plant life...
We then jumped in the truck and drove back out to the main road, and picked up a trail head, to hike for a bit. It ended up being about a 1 1/2 miles both ways.
Then it was off to check out the most important part for my 16yo....the boat launch area. He decided to leave his canoe in NH with his father, but has plans to start building another boat, as soon as I can find him a spot to work.
This is just one of many spots they have around the lake for swimming and boating. We didn't bring anything to go swimming in, so we just enjoyed the cool breeze under the pavilion for awhile. We were hot after the hike! :)
This will definitely be a place that we go back to often! There is so much to investigate, and we didn't even see 1/16th of it.
